SOUTHWEST HOSTS CLEVELAND STATE IN HOMECOMING
GAME
Southwest will celebrate Homecoming this Friday, February 17 as the
Saluqis’ and Lady Saluqis’ basketball teams host Cleveland State Community
College at the Verties Sails Gymnasium on the College’s Union Avenue Campus.
The women’s game will tip-off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
The
10th-ranked Saluqi men, coached by Verties Sails Jr., are currently 18-3
overall and in first place in the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association with a 15-2 record. Top players for the Southwest men
are sophomores Lester Hudson (pictured at left) (16.9 points, 5.1
rebounds), Anthony Pigram (14.6 points, .882 free throw percentage), and
Moraye Ivy (13.5 points, 6.2 rebounds), and freshmen Greg Grimes (9.6
points, 6.0 rebounds), Chris Evans (7.3 points, 5.2 rebounds) and Donald
Boone (8.8 points, 4.6 rebounds).
Coach
Andrea Martre’s Lady Saluqis, 14-7 overall and 11-6 in the TJCCAA, are also
one of the conference’s hottest teams, winning 10 of its last 11 games. They
are led by sophomores Imesia Jackson (pictured at right) (17.4
points, 10.6 rebounds), Porshia Willis (9.3 points, 95 assists) and
Priscilla Campbell (8.7 points), and freshmen Gina High (9.7 points, 98
assists), Tameka Wooten (9.0 points), and Jasmine Massey (8.7 points).
There are many activities planned for this year’s Southwest Homecoming,
including a half-time performance by the Southwest Cheerleaders, awards for
Mr. and Miss Basketball, a Homecoming Party on Friday, February 17 in room
B-106 on the Union Avenue Campus, and a comedy show on Saturday, February 18
in room M-109 on the Union Avenue Campus. Southwest student IDs are required
for both the party and comedy show.
On Saturday, Southwest will take on Hiwassee College in a women’s and men’s
doubleheader at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. The women’s game will begin at
2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
