SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS SWEEP IN TJCCAA PLAY

The nationally-ranked Southwest basketball teams continued their outstanding play with sweeps of Columbia State and Jackson State last week and Dyersburg State on Monday night in Dyersburg.  Gina High (pictured at right) scored a season-high 20 points and Ashley Shields posted her fourth triple-double of the season with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead the 15th-ranked Southwest women’s basketball team past Dyersburg State 88-56.  The win improved the Lady Saluqis record to 20-1 overall and 11-1 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association and was their 17th in a row.

The 19th-ranked Southwest men improved to 19-4 overall and 11-1 in the TJCCAA with a 94-91 win over Dyersburg State.  Scoring in double figures for Southwest were Antonio Young (16), Chris Evans (pictured at left) (14), Emmanuel Cheers (13), and Greg Grimes (13).  Only two home games remain for the Southwest basketball teams – this Saturday against Volunteer State (women at 2 p.m., men at 4 p.m.) and next Monday, February 19 against Shorter College (women at 6 p.m., men at 8 p.m.)
