SOUTHWEST SWEEPS SAINT CATHARINE TO END REGULAR
SEASON
The nationally-ranked Southwest basketball teams
swept Saint Catharine in a men’s and women’s
doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Saint Catharine,
Kentucky to wrap up the regular season and earn a top
seed for next week’s TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament.

Shields scored 35 points and Keona Brooks (pictured
at right) added 18 to lead the 15th-ranked Lady Saluqis to a 97-95 overtime win. It was the 22nd
consecutive win for the Southwest women and improved
their record to 25-1 overall and 15-1 in the TJCCAA.
James
Hooper (pictured at left) and Deante Burgess
scored 18 points each as the 18th-ranked Southwest men
defeated Saint Catharine 87-79. The Saluqis improved to
23-5 overall and 14-2 in the TJCCAA.
Both teams will receive a first round bye in next week’s
TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII tournament at Volunteer State in
Gallatin, Tennessee. The Lady Saluqis will play at 2
p.m. on Thursday, March 8 against the winner of the
Eastern Division number four seed vs. Western Division
number five seed. The men will play at 2 p.m. on Friday,
March 9, also against the winner of Eastern Division
four seed vs. Western Division five seed. Semifinal
games will be on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. (women)
and 6 p.m. (men) with the championship games on Sunday,
March 11 at 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men)
