BASKETBALL TEAMS SWEEP SAINT CATHARINE
The nationally-ranked Southwest basketball teams swept Saint
Catharine in a men's and women's doubleheader on Saturday night
at the Verties Sails Gymnasium.
Ashley
Shields (pictured at left) scored 35 points and grabbed
13 rebounds and Jasmine Massey added a season-high 20 points to
lead the 18th-ranked Lady Saluqis to a 95-86 win. Shields made
12 of 17 field goals including 3 of 4 from three-point range
while Massey made 6 of 8 from behind the arc. Also in double
figures was Tameka Wooten, who scored 15 points on 6 of 10 field
goals and 3 of 6 three pointers. As a team, the Lady Saluqis
made 13 of 21 three point field goals for 61.9 percent.

Nance (pictured at right) (19 points, 12 rebounds) and
Greg Grimes (12 points, 11 rebounds) each had double-doubles to
lead the 19th-ranked Southwest men to convincing 97-73 victory.
Also scoring in double figures for the Saluqis with 12 points
apiece were James Hooper, Ervin Herron, and Deante Burgess.
Southwest shot 52.2 percent from the field (including 62.1 in
the second half) while limiting Saint Catharine to just 34.3
percent shooting and also outrebounded the visitors by a 56-34
margin.
Southwest returns to the court on Wednesday against Columbia
State at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. The women's game will
tip-off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m
