SAILS NAMED TJCCAA COACH OF THE YEAR
 For
the eleventh time in his illustrious coaching career, Southwest men’s
basketball coach Verties Sails has been named Coach of the Year by the
Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association (TJCCAA).
Sails has guided the Saluqis to a 23-6 record this season including the
TJCCAA regular season championship and the TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII title.
Southwest defeated Columbia State 92-73 in the region finals, earning a
berth in the NJCAA National Tournament March 21-25 in Hutchinson, Kansas. It
was the seventh time a Sails-coached team has earned the region title and
qualified for the nationals. Now in his 27th season as the Saluqis’ head
coach, Sails has compiled a 584-231 record for a .717 winning percentage.
