SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL PLAYERS HONORED BY TJCCAA
Two womens and three mens basketball players from Southwest have been
selected all-conference by the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association including two first-team honorees.
Imesia
Jackson, a sophomore forward from Crawford, Mississippi, was voted
first-team All-TJCCAA and was third in voting for conference Player of the
Year. Jackson led the Lady Saluqis in scoring (18.9), rebounding (10.9),
field goal percentage (.608), field goals made (211), field goals attempted
(347), free throws made (106), free throws attempted (173), blocked shots
(37), and minutes played (796). She recorded an incredible 19 double-doubles
(at least 10 points and 10 rebounds) including high-games of 29 points
against Cleveland State and 19 rebounds versus Hiwassee. In her two-year
career at Southwest, Jackson scored 825 points, which ranks her 8th in Lady
Saluqis history. She also ranks in the top 10 in free throws attempted
(299/2nd), field goal percentage (.618/3rd), free throws made (191/3rd),
rebounds (506/7th), blocked shots (74/7th), scoring average (15.6/9th) and
rebounding average (9.5/9th)
Named
to the third team was sophomore point guard Porshia Willis, who averaged 9.4
points per game and led the Lady Saluqis with 133 assists, 69 steals, and a
.783 free throw percentage. Willis, a product of Kirby High School in
Memphis, was also among the team leaders with 34 three point field goals and
724 minutes played. In her career, ranks in the top 10 in free throw
percentage (.738/3rd), assists (255/6th), and steals (122/7th).
Lester
Hudson, a sophomore guard from Memphis Central High School, was named first
team All-TJCCAA and was runner-up in Player of the Year voting. Hudson is
leading Southwest in scoring (17.6), field goals made (191), field goals
attempted (411), free throws made (78), free throws attempted (115), and
minutes played (690). One of the teams top all-around players, he averages
5.6 rebounds per game and has recorded four double-doubles during the
season. Hudson scored at least 20 points in ten games including a
career-high 31 points against Roane State. He was named Most Valuable Player
of the TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament after averaging 21.0 points and
8.3 rebounds and leading the Saluqis to the tournament championship. In his
career, Hudson has scored 900 points for a 15.8 scoring average. He also
ranks 10th in Saluqis history with 123 steals.
Sophomore
forward Moraye Ivy, also a product of Memphis Central High School, was voted
to the second team. Ivy is averaging 12.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game
this season and is also among the Saluqis team leaders with 127 field goals
made, 309 field goals attempted, 66 free throws made, 95 free throws
attempted, 80 assists, 68 steals, and 602 minutes played. Ivy scored a
career-high 29 points against Chattanooga State and his best rebounding game
was against Pensacola when he grabbed 10 boards. Along with teammates Lester
Hudson and Greg Grimes he was named to the all-tournament team after leading
Southwest to the TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII tournament title. In his career,
Ivy has totaled 622 points, 293 rebounds, 136 assists, and 101 steals.
Sophomore
guard Anthony Pigram, from Trezevant High School in Memphis, was a third
team pick. Pigram, who signed with Tennessee State University during the
early signing period, is averaging 14.2 points per game and leads with team
in three-point field goals (81), three point field goal percentage (.388)
and free throw percentage (.872). Pigram scored a season-high 24 points
against Dyersburg State (twice) and also scored at least 20 points against
Walters State (23) and Chipola (22). One of the most prolific shooters in
Saluqis history, he ranks in the top 10 all-time with 172 three point field
goals made (2nd), 440 three point field goals attempted (3rd), .802 free
throw percentage (6th), and .391 three point field goal percentage (8th). In
addition, he has totaled 789 points, 97 assists, and 93 steals in his
career.
