SAILS TO BE INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL JUNIOR
COLLEGE BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME
Men's basketball coach and athletic director Verties Sails, Jr., has been
selected by the National Junior College Basketball Coaches Association for
induction into the National Junior College Basketball Hall of Fame, located
in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony will be Monday, March 15, at
Memorial Hall in Hutchinson. It will be held in conjunction with the NJCAA
Division I Men's Basketball National Tournament.
"Coach Sails is an extraordinary person who is honest and caring," said
President Essex. "He is a coaching legend as his outstanding record
reflects. He has molded and shaped the lives of many young men who had the
opportunity to be coached by him. Coach Sails is a man of integrity and
great wisdom. His unprecedented career is a tribute to Southwest and the
profession."
Now in his 25th season at the College, Sails has compiled a record of
536-216 and six trips to the NJCAA National Tournament. He has been named
Region VII Coach of the Year nine times, and has guided the Saluqis to 18
West Division titles, 13 Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic
Association championships, and seven Region VII championships. Sails has
received numerous other accolades, including receiving the Tennessee Sports
Hall of Fame Achievement Award.
