SALUQIS PLAY WESTERN
NEBRASKA IN TOURNAMENT OPENER
The Southwest men's basketball team will play Western Nebraska
Community College in the first round of the NJCAA (National Junior
College Athletic Association) national tournament tomorrow at 8:30
p.m. in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Saluqis, coached by Verties Sails, Jr., have compiled an
outstanding 23-6 record this season and enter the NJCAA tournament
with an eight-game winning streak. Southwest qualified for the
national
tournament by winning the Region VII championship, defeating Volunteer
State Community College 68-66 last week at Oman Arena in Jackson,
Tennessee.
Top players for the Saluqis this season are Brian
Kizzie, the Player of the Year in the Tennessee Junior and Community
College Athletic Association; Albert Jones, who was named to the
TJCCAA All-Western Division team; and Zach Bright, who along with
Kizzie, was named to the Region VII All-Tournament Team.
The winner and loser of tomorrow's game will play
either Southeastern Iowa vs. Southeastern Illinois
game. The winner of the two games will play on
Thursday at 6:45 p.m., while the loser will play at
12:45 p.m. The Saluqis' second round tournament game will be broadcast
locally on WUMR FM 91.7. |
