The Southwest men’s basketball team went 2-2 at the
NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas last
week to finish 8th in the 16-team field, the best since
the Saluqis 3rd place position in 2000. The Saluqis
finished the season with an outstanding 28-7 record and
were ranked 16th in the final NJCAA regular season poll.
After losing to Lon Morris 85-71 in the opening round on
Tuesday, Southwest came back to defeat Vincennes 84-77
on Wednesday and Georgia Perimeter 74-66 on Friday
before losing to Northeastern 94-80 in Saturday’s final

scorer in the tournament, averaging 20.3 points per
game. Boone closed out his Southwest career with a
career-high 32 points against Northeastern. Fellow
sophomores Nathan Walton (11.5) and Greg Grimes (11.3)
were other top scorers for the Saluqis in the four
games.
In addition to Boone, Walton, and Grimes, sophomores

their final games in a Southwest uniform. During their
two-year careers, Southwest had an exceptional 51-15
