SOUTHWEST RELEASES
2006-2007 BASKETBALL SCHEDULE
Southwest Athletic Director Verties Sails Jr. has released the
2006-2007 basketball schedule which includes 13 men’s and women’s home
doubleheaders as well as the Saluqis and Lady Saluqis Classics.
Southwest will tip-off the season with the Alumni Games on Friday,
October 27 at the Verties Sails Gymnasium on the College’s Union Avenue
Campus.
The regular season begins on Wednesday, November 1 when Southwest hosts
Coahoma Community College. Following second exhibition games on
Saturday, November 4 against the State Liners (women) and Spirit Express
(men), Southwest travels to the eastern part of the state on November
10-11 to open play in the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association with games at Roane State Community College
(Harriman, TN) and Walters State Community College (Morristown, TN). The
following weekend, November 17-18, Southwest hosts Chattanooga State and
Motlow State in the first TJCCAA home games of the season.
Other TJCCAA opponents for Southwest are Cleveland State Community
College, Columbia State Community College, Dyersburg State Community
College, Hiwassee College, Jackson State Community College, Saint
Catharine College, and Volunteer State Community College. Both the men
and women will play non-conference games against Arkansas Baptist
College and Shorter College, while the men only will play Kennedy-King
College.
The Southwest men will host the Saluqi Classic on November 24-25 which
features Cincinnati State Community College, Columbia State Community
College, Genesis One Christian Academy, Howard College, and Volunteer
State Community College. Also on the men’s slate is a trip to Pensacola,
Florida for the Collegiate Sports Travel Classic on December 29-30.
The Southwest women will also participate in two tournaments – the
Georgia Perimeter Classic in Atlanta on November 23-25 and the Lady
Saluqis Classic on December 28-29, which includes Mineral Area College,
Northwest-Shoals Community College, and Three Rivers Community College.
The 2006-2007 TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament will be held March 6-11
at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee. The
tournament champions will advance to the NJCAA national tournament March
20-24 in Hutchinson, Kansas (men) and Salina, Kansas (women).
