SOUTHWEST CHEERLEADERS CAPTURE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Competing in their first collegiate cheerleading competition, the Southwest cheerleading squad brought home national championships in two divisions in the Cheerleaders of America Lone Star Open Nationals in Dallas, Texas on April 1.

Under the direction of Coach Sabrina Tiller, Southwest won national championships in both the All Female Non Tumbling and Collegiate Stunt Group divisions. In addition, five Southwest cheerleaders placed in the Open Crowdleader individual division.

“The cheerleaders and I had a great time in Dallas,” said Tiller, who is in her third year as the
College’s cheerleading coach. “We laughed and cried and we did exactly what we said we were going to do
which was to bring Southwest home a victory!”

Members of the 2005-2006 Southwest Cheerleading Squad are: Lyisha Allen (New Orleans Redeemer-Seton High School), Nicole Bibbs (Frayser High School), Renell Collier (White Station High School), Sharday Godboldo (Melrose High School), Tanesha Jackson (Melrose High School), Danielle Jeffries (Whitehaven High School), Shundra King (South Side High School), Tamara Marion (Melrose High School), Tierreney Munford (Ridgeway High School), Kamesha Smith (Central High School), Chaundrea Street (Melrose High School),
and Jamaica Todd (Whitehaven High School).

The championship stunt group included Sharday Godboldo, Tanesha Jackson, Danielle Jeffries Chaundrea Street, and Jamaica Todd. Placing in the top five in the Open Crowdleader division were Kamesha Smith (champion), Tierreney Munford (runner-up), Renell Collier (third place), Tamara Marion (fourth place), and Tanesha Jackson (fifth place).

“We would like to thank all the parents and students for their support and especially thank student activities, Dr. Tosh, and Dr. Essex for making the trip possible,” said Tiller who now in her third year as the College’s Cheerleading Coach.
