SOUTHWEST CHEERLEADERS TO COMPETE NATIONALLY
The
Southwest cheerleaders will be journeying to Dallas, Texas on April 1 to
compete in their first National Cheerleading Competition. The Lone Star Open
National Championships will host junior high, high school, and college
cheerleading teams from across the globe. The Southwest cheerleaders will be
competing against other college cheer squads for scholarships, tuition
packages, other prizes, and of course bragging rights.
“I am very excited about this competition and the opportunity for our
cheerleaders to obtain national recognition,” said Southwest Cheerleading
Coach Sabrina Tiller. “We’ve been working day and night on our action-packed
routine in addition to basketball games and other school events. We have
5-day-a-week practices, cardio workouts, and intense strengthening and
conditioning.”
“Our goal is to go to Dallas prepared and give 110 percent,” said Tiller.
“When you give all you can and leave the competition floor with no regrets,
no judge can deny you of what you deserve. My goal right now as coach is to
try to keep the cheerleading squad as focused as possible.”
Members of the 2005-2006 Southwest Cheerleading Squad are: Lyisha Allen,
Nicole Bibbs, Renell Collier, Sharday Godboldo, Tanesha Jackson, Danielle
Jeffries, Shundra King, Tamara Marion, Tierreney Munford, Kamesha Smith,
Chaundrea Street, and Jamaica Todd.
This week's practices will be open to the public. They will be
held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6-10 p.m. at the Verties
Sails Gymnasium.
