SOUTHWEST CHEERLEADERS TO COMPETE IN NATIONALS
The Southwest Cheerleading Squad heads to Dallas,
Texas this weekend for the Cheerleaders of America Lone
Star Open Nationals. In 2006, Southwest competed in the
Lone Star Open for the first time and came home with
National Championships in two divisions.
”We’re heading to nationals with a different objective
than last year,” said Southwest Cheerleading Coach
Sabrina Tiller. “We want the cheerleaders to have fun
but also not to lose the focus of the trip. I reminded
the team that the names on the trophies are left blank
for a reason. It’s because anyone can win it.”
The Lone Star Open National Championships will host
junior high, high school, and college cheerleading teams
from across the globe. The Southwest cheerleaders will
be competing against other college cheer squads for
scholarships, tuition packages, other prizes, and of
course bragging rights.
“First place isn’t promised and just because we won last
year doesn’t mean this year will be the same,” said Tiller, who is now in
her fourth year at Southwest. “We’ve trained hard and stayed focused. It is
always harder the second time around but we’re ready and just as excited as
we were last year!
