SOUTHWEST HOSTS NATIONALLY-RANKED JACKSON STATE
Southwest Tennessee Community College men's basketball coach Verties Sails will go for his 499th career win Thursday night as the Saluqis host 14th-ranked Jackson State Community College. Coach Sails, now in his twenty-third year as the Saluqis' head coach, has led his team to an 11-8 overall record this season, including wins in six of the last seven games. The Saluqis are led by sophomore forward Cortez Stigger, who leads the Tennessee Junior/Community College Athletic Association with a 22.7 scoring average. Stigger, a product of Melrose High School in Memphis, also leads the team in rebounding (8.0 per game), assists (62), steals (34), three-point field goals (52), and three-point field goal percentage (.394). Other Saluqis averaging in double figures on the season are sophomore forward Lou Wright (15.0), sophomore guard Larry Wells (10.6), and freshman guard Antwon Bess (11.1).

The Lady Saluqis, coached by Andrea Martre, are currently 6-12 overall and are coming off consecutive conference wins over Dyersburg State and Volunteer State. Sophomore center Latoshia Bailey leads the team in scoring (13.7 points per game) and rebounding (9.9), while sophomore guard Torre Thomas adds 12.6 points and leads in assists (89) and steals (46).

The Southwest-JSCC women's game will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by men's action at 8:00 p.m. in the Verties Sails Gymnasium on the Union Campus. The next game for Southwest will be this Saturday, when the Saluqis and Lady Saluqis travel to Columbia, Tennessee to take on Columbia State Community College. Game times on Saturday will be 2:00 p.m. for the women, with the men following at 4:00 p.m.
