The Southwest Saluqis and Lady Saluqis basketball
teams return home this weekend for conference games with Chattanooga
State Community College on Friday, and Motlow State Community College
on Saturday. The games will be held at the Verties Sails Gymnasium on
the Union Campus at 6:00/8:00 p.m. on Friday, and 2:00/4:00 p.m. on
Saturday.
Coach Verties Sails' Saluqis currently have a
4-4 overall record, and are led by sophomore forwards Cortez Stigger
and Lou Wright. Both players rank among the region scoring leaders,
with Stigger averaging 23.3 points per game, and Wright carrying a
19.6 average. Stigger is coming off a career-high 39 points in Southwest's
114-102 overtime loss at Southern Union (AL) on Tuesday night.
Both Chattanooga State and Motlow State men's
teams come into this weekend's games with outstanding records.
Chattanooga State is currently 7-1 overall, while Motlow State is 8-1
and ranked 17th nationally. Chattanooga is led by Anthony Walker, who
averages 24.6 points per game, ranking him 10th in the nation in
scoring.
The Lady Saluqis, coached by Andrea Martre, have
a 1-5 overall record and are led in scoring by sophomore post players
Latoshia Bailey (16.5 points per game) and Larica Seals (15.5). Both
players also rank among the conference's top five rebounders, with
Bailey averaging 10.3 per game and Seals averaging 9.8.
Like their men, both Chattanooga State and
Motlow State come into this weekend with outstanding women's teams,
with Chattanooga State entering the game with a 7-0 record, and Motlow
State coming in at 5-1.
