The Saluqi men went
1-1 last week, defeating Dyersburg State 106-84 on Tuesday night, then
losing to St. Catharine College 102-95 on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Larry Wells scored 22 points, and sophomore forward
Melvin Coleman scored 20 points to lead the Saluqis past Dyersburg
State, coach Sails' 499th career victory. Also scoring in double figures
were sophomore forward Cortez Stigger (13), freshman center Zachary
Bright (10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds), and freshman guard
Antwon Bess (10).
In the loss to St. Catharine, Wells again led the team in scoring
with 20 points. Stigger added 18 points and 7 rebounds, and Coleman
scored 15 and led the team with 13 rebounds. The loss dropped the
Saluqis record to 12-11 overall and 6-6 in the TJCCAA.
Southwest TRAVELS TO JACKSON TUESDAY, HOSTS
COLUMBIA SATURDAY IN HOME FINALE
Next up for the Saluqis and Lady Saluqis will be a road trip to
Jackson State Community College this Thursday night. The women's game
will begin at 6:00 p.m., with the men at 8:00 p.m. The teams will return
home this Saturday against Columbia State for the final home games of
the season. The Lady Saluqis will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by the
Saluqis at 4:00 p.m. at the Verties Sails Gymnasium on the Union Campus.
