Coach Verties Sails
will go for his 500th career win this Saturday night as the Southwest
Tennessee Community College basketball teams host St. Catharine College
for Homecoming. The women's game will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by
the men at 8:00 p.m. in the Verties Sails Gymnasium on the Union Campus.
The Saluqis gave Coach Sails his 499th win on Tuesday
night in a 106-84 win over Dyersburg State. Eleven players scored in the
game, led by sophomore guard Larry Wells with 22 points and sophomore
forward Melvin Coleman with 19. Also scoring in double figures were
sophomore forward Cortez Stigger with 13 points, freshman center Zachary
Bright, who came off the bench to score 10 points (making all five of
his shots) and grab 11 rebounds, and freshman guard Antwon Bess with 10
points.
Also winning were the Southwest women, defeating
Dyersburg State by a 66-61 score. The Lady Saluqis were minus head coach
Andrea Martre, who was under the weather, and were coached by assistants
Emma Devine and Aisha Fowler-Barker. Sophomore guard Torre Thomas scored
18 points and dished out six assists to lead the Lady Saluqis in the
victory. Also in double figures were sophomore forward Larica Seals with
15 points and freshman forward Jordan Morgan with 12 points. Seals and
Morgan, along with sophomore center Latoshia Bailey, tied for the team
high in rebounds with nine.
