LADY SALUQIS WIN TWO AT DYERSBURG STATE SOFTBALL PLAY-DAY

The Southwest softball team wrapped up its fall season by winning two out of three games on Friday, October 13 at the Dyersburg State Fall Play-Day in Dyersburg, Tennessee. After losing the first game 6-0 to Freed-Hardeman University, the Lady Saluqis came back to defeat Cumberland University 5-4 and Mid-Continent University 8-1.

In the Cumberland game, Brooke Hively and Jessica Hefflinger walked to open the game then both scored on a double to left-center field by Caryn Hubbard. Amanda Harlow drove in Hubbard with another two-base hit and later scored the Lady Saluqis’ fourth run on an error by the Cumberland first baseman. In the third inning, Harlow blasted a solo home run to centerfield for Southwest’s fifth run of the game.

Southwest saved its best game for last as the Lady Saluqis pounded out nine hits against Mid-Continent. Hubbard earned her second pitching victory of the day, allowing only five hits and one run over seven innings. It was a team effort for the Lady Saluqis as eight different players had base hits.

Several Southwest players had at least two hits on the day: Hively (3 hits, 2 runs), Harlow (3 hits, 2 runs, double, home run, 3 RBI), Hubbard (2 hits, 2 runs, double, 2 RBI), Staci Craig (2 hits, 2 runs, double) and Lindsey McGoff (2 hits, double, RBI).
