SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TEAM DEFEATS ITAWAMBA
The Southwest softball team won one game and lost two on Friday, October 1
at the UT-Martin Tournament in Martin, Tennessee. The Lady Saluqis defeated
Itawamba Community College (18-2), and lost to Columbia State Community
College (10-1) and Bethel College (4-2).
In the win over Itawamba, Southwest scored 16 runs in the first inning,
batting around twice! Jennifer Davenport had two hits in the inning
(including a double) and drove in four runs. Also with two hits in the game
were Melissa Perry, Jessica Laubacker, Katie Cerrito, Ginny Galloway, and
Anna Carter.
Davenport, Perry, and Heather Bryant were the Lady Saluqis’ top hitters on
the day. Davenport went 4 for 8 with two doubles and five RBI, while both
Perry and Bryant went 4 for 7 in the three games. Southwest players who had
three hits were Katie Cerrito (3 for 6) and Ginny Galloway (3 for 7).
Erica Brich, who was the winning pitcher against Itawamba, pitched a total
of 3-2/3 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out five batters.
Allison Mullins also pitched well, allowing two earned runs in six innings
against Bethel. |
