LADY SALUQIS SOFTBALL OPENS SEASON
The Southwest softball team will open its season on Monday, February 23,
when the Lady Saluqis host Southeastern Illinois College in a 1 p.m.
doubleheader at the Appling Complex in Bartlett. After not fielding a
team in 2003, Southwest enters this season with a roster made up
entirely of players who are in their first year at the collegiate level.
“We’re looking forward to the start of the season,” said first-year head
coach Keith Gentry. “Our players have been working hard in practice and
are ready to get started. It’s a new beginning for Southwest softball,
and we believe this season will be the first step in building a winning
program.”
The starting pitchers for the Lady Saluqis will be left-hander Katie
Cerrito from Houston High School and right-hander Ginny Glenn from
Southern Baptist Educational Center. Rounding out the lineup will be
catcher Tiffany Bright (Bartlett High School), first baseman Kacie Adams
(Bolton High School), second baseman Jessica Laubacker (Newfane, NY),
third baseman Chrissy Odom (Craigmont High School), shortstop Heather
Bryant (Brighton High School), and outfielders Ginny Galloway (Houston
High School), Christi Morrison (Bolton High School), Megan Young
(Bartlett High School), and Melissa Perry (Goose Creek, SC.)
Following Monday’s game, the Lady Saluqis travel across town to take on
Rhodes College Thursday in a single game beginning at 3 p.m.
