SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TEAM SWEEPS COAHOMA IN
DOUBLEHEADER
The Southwest softball team won two games and lost
four last week, including a doubleheader sweep of Coahoma (24-0 and 17-0) at
the Appling Complex on Wednesday night. On Monday, the Lady Saluqis were
defeated by Itawamba by scores of 12-2 and 7-3. Southwest was also defeated
on Thursday by Northwest Mississippi 3-2 and 10-3.
In the first game against Coahoma, the Lady Saluqis
scored 19 runs in the first inning to set a new school record. Tiffany
Bright also set single game records with three doubles and five runs batted
in, while Kacie Adams also had three hits and drove in four runs. Katie
Cerrito and Ginny Glenn each pitched no-hitters with Glenn striking out a
season-high eight batters in game two.
The Lady Saluqis, now 4-5 on the season, will travel
to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas on Monday, March 15 to take on Williams Baptist in
a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader. On Thursday, Southwest travels (along with the
Saluqis' baseball team) to Fulton, Mississippi for a noon twinbill against
Itawamba, then will host Columbia State at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the
Appling Complex in the conference opener.
