SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TEAM SWEPT IN TJCCAA GAMES
The Southwest softball team opened conference play over the weekend at the
Buckhead Recreational Complex against two of the top teams in the TJCCAA,
losing all four games to drop their overall record to 8-11 on the season.
After
losing game one to Motlow State 11-0 on Friday, the Lady Saluqis played much
better in the second game despite losing the game 8-3. On the day, the top
hitters for Southwest were Carrie Byram (pictured at left) (2 hits,
double, RBI) and Jessica Hefflinger (2 hits, 2 RBI).
On Saturday, the Lady Saluqis lost to nationally-ranked Chattanooga State by
scores of 14-0 and 9-1. Byram was again the top hitter with three hits on
the afternoon while Caryn Hubbard added two hits in game two.
The Lady Saluqis return to action on Monday, March 20 against Northeast
Mississippi in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Buckhead Creek. On Wednesday,
Southwest hosts Independence (KS) at 3 p.m. before traveling to Booneville,
Mississippi this weekend to compete in the Tiger Fest Tournament on Friday
and Saturday, March 24-25.
