SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH DYERSBURG

The Southwest softball team split a doubleheader with Dyersburg State last Wednesday in Dyersburg, Tennessee, winning 6-3 and losing 3-2. The Lady Saluqis’ record now stands at 15-22 overall and 4-6 in the TJCCAA.

In game one, Southwest jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Gina High (pictured at right) led off the game with a double, stole third then both she and Jessica Hefflinger (who walked) scored on a double by Jennifer Davenport. Ashley Forrest followed with a single to drive in Davenport with the third run of the inning. Southwest added two more in the second inning on a two-run single by Erica Brich and one run in the sixth on consecutive doubles by Caryn Hubbard and Lindsey McGoff. Brich was also the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run and striking out ten.

Despite the loss in game two, Lady Saluqis’ pitcher Allison Mullins pitched an outstanding game, allowing only three hits (including only one after the first inning) and one earned run. High collected three of the four Southwest hits in the game and on the day went 5 for 7 with a double, triple, two stolen bases, and three runs scored.
