LADY SALUQIS
SOFTBALL TEAM SPLITS WITH COLUMBIA AND VOL
The Southwest softball split doubleheaders with
Columbia State (winning 3-1, losing 10-2) on Saturday
and Volunteer State (winning 6-1, losing 7-5) on Sunday,
both at the Buckhead Creek Recreation Complex. The wins
were the first ever against the two schools, and
improved the Lady Saluqis’ record to 24-19 on the
season.
In the game one victory against Columbia State, Staci
Craig pitched a two-hitter, allowed no earned runs, and
struck out nine. Top hitters were Alyse Brewer (2 hits),
Amanda Harlow (2 hits, RBI), Courtney LeBlanc (double),
and Whitney Witcher (2 hits, double, RBI).
Against Volunteer State, Craig scattered five hits and
struck out eight in the game one win. Leading
hitters for Southwest were Amber Gatewood (2 hits),
Carly McLennan (2 hits, double), LeBlanc (2 hits,
double, 4 rbi), and Craig (2 hits). The Lady Saluqis
played outstanding defense in the game, committing no
errors and turning a double play in the third inning.
Southwest lost game two by a 7-5 score.
