LADY SALUQIS' SOFTBALL TEAM DEFEATS CROWLEY'S RIDGE, LOSES TO ITAWAMBA
AND THREE RIVERS
The Southwest softball team played six games last week - all on the
road. On Tuesday, the Lady Saluqis lost two close games to Itawamba
Community College in Fulton, Mississippi by scores of 3-2 and 2-1.
Southwest traveled to Paragould, Arkansas on Thursday and sweep
Crowley's Ridge College in a doubleheader 6-1 and 17-2. On Sunday, the
Lady Saluqis lost two games (3-0 and 9-0) to Three Rivers Community
College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Southwest's record now stands at
20-28 overall with ten games (including eight conference games)
remaining.
In
the sweep of Crowley's Ridge, there were several Lady Saluqis' players
who had outstanding games. Erica Brich (pictured at right) was
the winning pitcher in the first game, setting a new Southwest record
with 12 strikeouts. Brich and Tiffany Bright were the top hitters in the
game with two hits each. In game two, Katie Cerrito was the winning
pitcher and also was the top hitter with two hits and three runs batted
in. Also with multiple hits in the game were Jennifer Davenport (2 for
3, 2 RBI) and Jessica Laubacker (2 for 3, triple, RBI).
The Lady Saluqis will play at Shawnee Community College in Ullin,
Illinois today, Monday, April 25 before finishing out the regular season
with eight conference games. Southwest returns home to the Appling
Complex on Wednesday, April 27 to take on Dyersburg State Community
College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader. On Sunday, May 1, the Lady
Saluqis will play their final home game of the season when they host
Volunteer State in a noon doubleheader.
