LADY SALUQIS
SOFTBALL TEAM SPLITS WITH NORTHWEST
The Southwest softball team split a doubleheader with Northwest
Mississippi last Thursday at the Appling Complex, losing the first game
10-2 and winning the second 3-1.
In
the Lady Saluqis win, sophomore lefthander Katie Cerrito (pictured
at right) pitched her best game of the season, allowing six hits and
striking out five in a complete seven inning game. With two outs in the
second inning, Ginny Galloway drove in Christi Morrison to tie the game
at 1-1 then Cerrito singled in Heather Bryant with the go-ahead run.
Galloway was also the Lady Saluqis top hitter in the game with two base
hits. Southwest added a single run in the fifth when Crystal Smith
walked to lead off the inning and later scored on a single by Chrissy
Odom. Smith also made the defensive play of the day with a sliding catch
in right field in the top of the sixth.
Southwest plays its next five opponents at the Appling Complex,
beginning Monday, April 4 with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against LeMoyne-Owen.
The Lady Saluqis also play on Tuesday, April 5 (vs. Coahoma at 1 p.m.),
Wednesday, April 6 (vs. Northwest-Shoals at 2 p.m.), Thursday, April 7
(vs. Jackson State at 3 p.m.), and Sunday, April 10 (vs. Columbia State
at 1 p.m.)
