LADY SALUQIS’ SOFTBALL
TEAM PLAYS CLEVELAND STATE IN REGION OPENER
The Southwest softball team begins post-season play
at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4 when the West Division number
five seed Lady Saluqis face East Division number four
Cleveland State in the opening game of the TJCCAA/NJCAA
Region VII Tournament at Eddie Campbell Field in
Columbia, Tennessee.
The
winner of the Southwest-Cleveland State game will meet
Western Division top seed and host team Columbia State
at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The loser of the
Southwest-Cleveland State game plays at 8 p.m. Saturday
against the loser of the Chattanooga State vs. game one
two winner (Dyersburg State or Roane State). The Lady
Saluqis ended the regular season with a 15-24 overall
record while Cleveland State finished 25-31.
Southwest is led in hitting by sophomore shortstop Gina
High (.388, 16 RBI), sophomore second baseman Jessica
Hefflinger (pictured at right) (.380,
school-record 31 RBI), freshman pitcher Staci Craig
(.377, 15 RBI), sophomore catcher Anna Carter (.293, 28
RBI), and sophomore outfielder Caryn Hubbard (.289, 2
HR, 19 RBI). Craig also leads the pitching staff with 10
wins, 119 strikeouts, and a 2.92 earned run average.
