Three members of the Southwest softball team have been honored by the
Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association, including
one who was selected to the all-conference team. The players received
their awards last Saturday at the Region VII Tournament in Columbia,
Tennessee.
Sophomore catcher Tiffany Bright was named to the All-Conference team
for the second straight season. Bright, who came to Southwest from
Bartlett High School, was the Lady Saluqis’ leading hitter this season
with a .347 batting average. She also led the team with 50 hits, 31 runs
batted in, a .410 slugging average, and a .437 on-base average. Bright
also set numerous Southwest career records, including most hits (93),
most RBI (62), and most total bases (114).
Two Lady Saluqis were named to the All-Western Division Team. Erica
Brich, a freshman pitcher-infielder from Collierville High School, set
Southwest single season pitching records with 10 wins, 132 strikeouts,
and a 2.32 earned run average. Brich was also one of the team’s top
hitters with a .283 average, led the team with 32 runs scored, and was
second with 22 RBI.
Also named all-division was sophomore centerfielder Christi Morrison.
After missing most of her freshman season with a knee injury, Morrison
came back this year as one of the Lady Saluqis’ best all-around players.
She led the team with 56 games played and 154 at-bats, was second in runs
scored with 28, and fourth in hits with 35. In addition, Morrison made only
one error in 16 conference games.
