LADY SALUQIS DROP TWO GAMES IN REGION SOFTBALL
TOURNEY
The Southwest softball game lost to Cleveland State
(6-1) and Dyersburg State (11-1) over the weekend at the
TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament in Columbia,
Tennessee to end their season. The Lady Saluqis finished
the injury-riddled season with a 15-24 overall record.
In the first round loss to Cleveland State, the Lady
Saluqis played well after falling behind 4-0 in the
first inning. Pitcher Caryn Hubbard allowed only one
earned run in the final five innings, getting out of
jams with no runs scored in both the second and fifth
innings. Five different players had one hit each for
Southwest - Hubbard, Gina High, Jessica Hefflinger, Anna
Carter, and Staci Craig. Craig and Hefflinger had the
Lady Saluqis' only two hits in the loss to Dyersburg
State.
Craig was unable to pitch in either game due to a
contusion in her knee suffered in the final regular
season game against Volunteer State. It was the last in
a series of injuries for the Lady Saluqis, who lost
their starting centerfielder (Brooke Hively) and third
baseman (Alyse Brewer) to ACL injuries mid-way through
the season.
