SALUQIS SOFTBALL TEAM OPENS FALL SEASON AT COLUMBIA STATE
The Southwest softball team
will open the Fall Season with a trip to Columbia, Tennessee on September
10-11 to participate in the CSCC Fall Classic, hosted by Columbia State
Community College. The Lady Saluqis will play 20-25 games this fall, with
trips also planned for tournaments at Northeast Mississippi Community
College, Dyersburg State Community College, and the University of
Tennessee at Martin. On October 8-9, Southwest will host the Lady Saluqis
Fall Play Day at the Appling Complex in Bartlett.
The Lady Saluqis, under second-year head coach Keith Gentry, return nine
players off last year’s squad and should be much improved this season.
Top returning starters for the Lady Saluqis include catcher Tiffany
Bright, who was named to the TJCCAA All-Conference and All-Region VII
Teams, and second baseman Jessica Laubacker, who was an All-Western
Division selection. Also back from the 2004 team are pitcher Katie
Cerrito, first baseman Kacie Adams, third baseman Heather Bryant,
shortstop Chrissy Odom, and outfielders Ginny Galloway, Christi Morrison,
and Melissa Perry. Utility player Erin Cook, who prepped at Cordova High
School, is a sophomore transfer from Dyersburg State, while top freshman
signees for the upcoming season are pitcher Erica Brich from Collierville
High School, outfielder Crystal Smith from Horn Lake High School, and
first baseman-outfielder Jennifer Davenport from Houston High School. |
