LADY SALUQIS OPEN
FALL SEASON WITH WIN
Led by a pair of freshmen from
Tipton County, the Southwest softball team opened the 2007 fall
season with a 5-0 victory over Alabama Southern last Saturday
afternoon at the Lady Charger Classic in Columbia, Tennessee.
Maegan Wilson (Munford High School) tossed a one-hit shutout and
shortstop/centerfielder Amber Gatewood (Brighton High
School) went 2 for 2 with a double and two runs batted in to
lead the Lady Saluqis.
Southwest lost its next two games in
the classic, 9-3 to Northwest-Shoals (AL) and 6-0 to
nationally-ranked Wallace State (AL).
In addition to Gatewood, who had
four hits in the three games, other top hitters for the Lady
Saluqis on the day were sophomore pitcher/centerfielder Staci
Craig (3 hits, double, 2 RBI), freshman outfielder Beth Bellard
(2 hits, 1 RBI), freshman infielder Alyse Brewer (2 hits), and
Wilson (2 hits).
The Southwest softball team returns
to action this Friday when the Lady Saluqis take on Lambuth
University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader in Jackson, Tennessee.
