SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TEAM DEFEATS MID-CONTINENT
The Southwest softball team played three games in the Dyersburg State
Play-Day
in Dyersburg, Tennessee on Friday, September 24, defeating Mid-Continent
College
(4-1) and losing to Bethel College (2-1) and Tennessee State University
(2-0).
In the opening game against Mid-Continent, pitchers Allison Mullins and
Caryn
Hubbard combined to allow only one hit and no earned runs over five innings.
The
Lady Saluqis broke open a tie game in the bottom of the fifth inning,
scoring three
runs to win the game 4-1. Top hitters for Southwest were Chrissy Odom,
who
doubled in two runs, and Kacie Adams, who singled in the Lady Saluqis' first
run
of the game.
Against Bethel, Southwest gave up two unearned runs in the first game and
lost
the game 2-1 despite a solo homer by Heather Bryant in the sixth inning.
Erica
Brich pitched another outstanding game for the Lady Saluqis, allowing only
four
hits and no earned runs over six innings.
In the finale against Tennessee State, the Lady Saluqis nearly matched TSU's
hits
(7-5), but left five baserunners on in a 2-0 defeat. Top hitters were
Kacie Adams,
who had two hits (including a double) and was 3 for 6 on the day, and
Jessica
Laubacker, who also had a two-base hit. Katie Cerrito turned in the
third well-pitched game of the day, allowing two runs and striking out three. |
