BASEBALL
In 2002, the Southwest Tennessee
Community College baseball team won 30 games for the third straight
season, compiling a 30-23 overall record. The Saluqis, coached by Doug
Darnall and Johnny Ray, finished third in the West Division of the
Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association with a 10-10
record, and placed fifth in the TJCCAA/Region 7 Tournament. The Saluqis
return five starters off last year's squad, including the entire outfield.
Centerfielder Patrick Williams, an all-conference pick in 2002, will be
joined by Wes Daniels in left field and Dusty Harris in right.
Other returnees are infielder Brett Beckwith and catcher Jacob Barker, who
led the Saluqis in home runs and runs batted in as a freshman. The top
returning pitchers for Southwest are
right-handers Marshall Mullins and
Scott Nobles.
