consistent with his mechanics and offspeed pitches, but has a big-time
fastball (topping out at 93 MPH in the fall.)"
Carrico signed with Delta State University during the early signing
period
2003: The workhorse of the Saluqis’ staff as a freshman,
Carrico led the team with a 6-4 record, 64 strikeouts, and 67-2/3
innings pitched, and 13 games started. He was also among the staff
leaders with a 2.79 earned run average, walked just 21 batters, and
allowed opponents to bat only .215 against him. Carrico tossed a
no-hitter against Columbia State in conference play.
High School: Carrico played for coach Tommy Scarbrough at Bolton
High School, where he posted a 1-1 record with a 3.44 earned run
average in an injury-plagued senior season. He appeared in six games,
striking out 11 batters in 12-2/3 innings. Carrico also started at
shortstop, batting .263 with 10 doubles and 23 runs batted in. As a
junior, he went 4-2 with a 3.22 ERA, struck out 59 batters and walked
20 in 50 innings of work.
Personal: Born August 18, 1983, in Memphis, Carrico is the son of
Tina Carrico and Larry Carrico. |
