"Dustin has improved tremendously with his defensive skills since his freshman year. He will be a vital part of the success of this year’s team as an everyday starter at short."

2003: Shields played in 49 games as a freshman, batting .270 with 22 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, 12 runs batted in, and six stolen bases. He led the team with 101 assists from the shortstop position, and turned 10 double plays.

High School: Shields played for coach Chad Williams at Amory (MS) High School, where he was a four year starter and a two-time recipient of ‘Most Valuable Infielder’ award. He was also named all-division, was Most Valuable Player of the NEMCABB Game, received the ‘Leader Award’, and was named team MVP. Shields batted .350 his senior year, and appeared in nine games as a pitcher, compiling a 5-3 record. He was a member of the 1999 Amory team that won the Class 3-A state Championship. An all around athlete, Shields was a four-year football letterman, quarterbacked Amory to the 3-A state championship in 1998. He was member of SADD, the French Club, German Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Summer Ball:
Shields played for the Tupelo 49ers, batting over .500 with 11 doubles and 17 stolen bases in 2002.

Personal:
Born October 27, 1983, in Amory, Mississippi, Shields is the son of Keith and Debbie Shields.
