As a senior, Akin batted .340 with 10
doubles, four home runs, 21 runs batted in, and a .500 on-base average. He
was a four-year starter as an infielder for Munford coach Tommy Densford,
and was named to the All-District 14AAA Team and All-Tournament Team his
senior year. In 2004, Munford finished the season with an outstanding 26-7
record, winning the District 14AAA and Region 7AAA championships before
losing to eventual state champion Knoxville Farragut in the state tournament
semifinals.
Summer Ball:. Akin played for the Memphis Tigers in the Connie Mack
League.
