Murphy has been voted a Team Captain for the 2005 Season.

Junior College: 
Murphy played his freshman season at Garden City (KS) Community College, where he batted .294 with nine doubles, one triple, eight home runs, and 36 runs batted in.

High School:
.Murphy played five years for coach Terry Knecht at Grace Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  His senior season, Murphy batted .630 with 13 home runs, 44 runs batted in, a 1.361 slugging average, and a .739 on-base average.  His honors include Grace Academy’s Top Hitter Award (3 years), Grace’s Top Pitcher Award (1 year), Inducted into Sports Hall of Fame (2003), All-District 5A (4 years), District 5A MVP (2 years), District 5A All-Tournament Team (2 years), Chattanooga Times-Press Press All-City First Team (2003), All-City Second Team (2002), TPX Louisville Slugger High School All-American (2002 and 2003), Baseball America High School All-American second team (2003), Baseball America’s Top 350 Prospects (2002 and 2003), Student Sports High School All-American second team (2003), Collegiate Baseball’s Top Prospects (2001, 2002, and 2003), National High School Baseball Coaches Association All-American third team (2003), Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Game (2003), Gatorade Tennessee Player of the Year (2003), Tennessee Sports Writers All-State (2003.)  As a junior, Murphy hit three grand slams in a season and was listed in the 2002 National High School Sports Record Book.  Murphy was drafted by the Montreal Expos in both the 2003 and 2004 Major League Baseball Draft.

Summer Ball:
. In 2002, he played with the Boys of Baseball National Travel Team and received the Coaches Award. 

Personal:
Born October 7, 1984, in New London, Connecticut, Murphy is the son of Jerry and Deborah Murphy.
