2005: Akin started 43 games as a freshman and ranked sixth on the team in
batting with a .354 average. He was also among the Saluqis’ team leaders
with 18 doubles (2nd), 30 runs batted in (6th), 74
total bases (6th), a .446 on-base average (3rd), and a
.569 slugging average (3rd). An outstanding defensive first
baseman, Akin led all infielders with a .990 fielding average and made only
two errors all season.
High School: As a senior, Akin batted .340 with 10 doubles, four home
runs, 21 runs batted in, and a .500 on-base average. He was a four-year
starter as an infielder for Munford Coach Tommy Densford, and was named to
the All-District 14AAA Team and All-Tournament Team his senior year. In
2004, Munford finished the season with an outstanding 26-7 record, winning
the District 14AAA and Region 7AAA championships before losing to eventual
state champion Knoxville Farragut in the state tournament semifinals.
Summer Ball: Akin played last summer for the Memphis Royals, coached by
Keith Gentry. He batted .381 with 63 total bases and led the Memphis Stan
Musial League with 15 doubles.
Personal: Born December 3, 1985, in Jackson, Tennessee, Akin is the son
of James and Melody Akin.
