High School: Thornton
played for Coach Jeff Hopkins at Collierville High School, where he helped
lead his teams to two district, region, and sectional championships. His
senior year, Thornton batted .407 with two home runs after batting .410 as a
junior. He was named to the all-metro and all-district teams and was
selected to the all-tournament team at the USA Classic. As a senior,
Thornton received Collierville’s award for Best Defensive Player. An
excellent student, Thornton was named to the Honor Roll and Who’s Who Among
High School Students. He was also invited to participate in a Legal
Internship in Washington, D.C. in the fall of 2004.
Summer Ball: Thornton played last summer for the Memphis Tigers Connie
Mack team coached by Keith Hagan.
Personal: Born September 21, 1986, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Thornton is
the son of Phillip and Jennifer Thornton.
