FAQ’s

(1)  Do I have to have cheerleading experience? 
YES!
  It is preferred that you have at least two years of cheerleading, dance, or majorette experience.

(2)  Are there any tumbling requirements? 
Only basic tumbling is required.

(3)  Do I have to choreograph my own routine? 
No.  Coach Tiller will choreograph and teach all tryout material.

(4)  What is a yell-leader? 
A yell-leader is a male cheerleader whose responsibilities are the same as those of a female cheerleader with the exception of dancing.

(5)  Are there scholarships provided for cheerleaders?
If eligible, each cheerleader will receive a scholarship both in the fall and spring semesters.

(6)  Do I have to participate in the cheerleading workshop on Thursday? 
No.  However, we urge all applicants old and new to attend.  This workshop is designed to give you an idea of the cheer and dance material that Coach Tiller will be teaching at auditions.  You will also have the opportunity to ask any additional questions you may have about auditions.

(7)  Do I have to participate in the workshop if I am a mascot? 
No, finals only.

(8)  Where can I pick up and drop off my application? 
If you are unable to download an application from the school’s website, you can pick up an application in the Student Activities Office on the Macon Cove Campus (FA-2131) and/or the Union Avenue Campus (B-106.)

(9)  Do I have to pay for my uniform?
No.  Southwest Tennessee Community College will provide uniforms with an exception of minor items that you will need during the season (i.e. sportsbra, socks, and materials for personal first aid kit)

(10) Are there any age requirements?
No.  However, you must be a part-time or full-time Southwest Tennessee Community College student.

(11) What should I wear to auditions?
Cheer or dance wear.  Be creative.  We ask only that you use your own discretion.

(12) Where can I found out more information?
Aside from attending the workshop, the website will always be updated to include the latest information.  We urge you to attend the workshop as it will give you strong insight into what it will take to succeed.

(13) What if I'm only able to attend prelims on Friday, September 14 and not finals on Saturday, September 15, or vice-versa?
Please speak to Coach Tiller in person before finals.  E-mails and phone messages are not acceptable.

(14) What time will tryouts end?
There is no definite end time.  With that said, please do not make additional plans on Friday night or Saturday afternoon.
