Keith Gentry is
entering his fifth season as Southwest's head softball coach, compiling
a 69-137 record and in 2005 guided the Lady Saluqis to a school-record
25 victories. He is
also Southwest's Media Representative for Sports Information, as well as
the official statistician for the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association.
Gentry has managed the Memphis Royals semi-pro
baseball team for the past 24 years, compiling a record of 850-308. He
has guided the Royals to four American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC)
state championships, two AABC regional runnerup, one National Amateur
Baseball Federation (NABF) regional championship, and two NABF regional
runnerup. In 1999, Gentry guided the Royals to a 67-1 record in 1999,
winning their first 55 games en route to capturing the United States
Baseball Congress Semi-Pro National Championship, and the Universal
Baseball Global Championships. In 2000, Gentry was honored as the AABC
Southeast Region Coach of the Year and in 2002 he was inducted in the
National Semi Pro Baseball Hall of Fame.
A graduate of Oakhaven Baptist
Academy in Memphis, Gentry lettered in basketball and baseball, and was
the statistician for entire sports program. As a senior, he was
received awards for Best Pitcher and Most Valuable Player of the
baseball team. Gentry was a pitcher on Term City's American Legion
state championship baseball team, then later played for the Memphis
Royals semipro team, compiling 50 wins and over 500 strikeouts in his
career.
Gentry attended Shelby State Community College his freshman
year before transferring to The University of Memphis, where he received
his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations. He is a member of the
U of M football and basketball statistics, and is currently on the
Memphis Grizzlies stat crew as well. Owner of Gentry's Statistical
Service, Gentry received the A.F. Bridges Award for Contributor of the
Year from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association in 1999.
