“A red-shirt sophomore, we expect great things from James this
season. He is a tremendous defensive guard who can also pass and
score. Work and experience have made him an outstanding player.”
2005-06: Hooper was red-shirted.
2004-05: Hooper played in 15 games as a freshman and averaged
5.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
High School: Hooper played for Coach Fred Horton at Booker T.
Washington High School in Memphis, where he led the Warriors to a
20-10 record, the District 16AA championship and the region
semifinals his senior season. Hooper averaged 18.8 points, 3.9
assists, and 3.2 steals per game and led the team with 71
three-point field goals made. He scored scored over 30 points three
times including a career-high 41 against Carver. Hooper was named
All-District 16AA and to The Commercial Appeal’s Best of the Preps
All-Metro Team.
Personal: Born August 5, 1986, in Memphis, Hooper is the son
of Lisa and James Hooper, Jr.
