Katie Cerrito

2004 Fall Season:
Cerrito was third on the team with a .333 batting average and also among the
team leaders with 10 runs, 17 hits, and a .370 on-base average. As a
pitcher, Cerrito posted a 3.32 earned run average, striking out 24 batters
in 52-2/2 innings.
Her wins last fall came
against Rhodes and Three Rivers. Cerrito is also a member of the Lady
Saluqis’ 3.0 Club, and has a 3.729 cumulative grade point average. She is
scheduled to graduate in May, 2005 with an Associate of Science degree in
Education.
2004 Spring Season: In an injury-plagued freshman season, Cerrito
led the Lady Saluqis pitching staff with a 4.60 earned run average and a
.299 opponents batting average. She appeared in 17 games as a pitcher,
striking out 48 batters in 88-1/3 innings. Cerrito batted .194 in
62-bats and was among the team leaders with 11 walks, 6 sacrifice bunts, and
a .324 on-base average. She was one of five Southwest athletes honored
by the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association for her
work in the classroom, receiving the TJCCAA Academic Achievement Award.
Cerrito carried a 3.9 grade point average her freshman year, the top GPA
among all Southwest athletes last year.
2003 Fall Season:
Cerrito was one of the Lady Saluqis' pitchers and also saw action in the
infield at second base and third base. She led the team with a .389
batting average and a .488 on-base average, made only one error, and was
second on the team with a .963 fielding average.. As a pitcher,
Cerrito appeared in 14 games and struck out 31 batters in 47 innings of
work.
High School: Cerrito lettered three
years at Houston High School under coach Chad Becker, and was named to the
All-District 15AAA and The Commercial Appeal's Best of the Preps teams every
year. As a senior, Cerrito compiled a 15-11 record with a 3.16 ERA, leading the Lady
Mustangs to a third-place finish in the district tournament. She
struck out 117 batters while walking only 29 in 133 innings, and allowed
opponents to bat only .202 against her. Cerrito was also one of the
Lady Mustangs' top hitters with a .373 batting average and a .653 on-base
average. As a
sophomore, she led Houston to District 15AAA runnerup, Region 8AAA runnerup,
sectional championship, and a berth in the Class AAA state tournament.
An outstanding student, Cerrito was a member of the Beta Club and the
Spanish Honor Society at Houston High.
Personal: Born August 1, 1985, in
Memphis, Cerrito is the daughter of Mike and Linda Cerrito. Her
sister, Paula, is currently playing softball at Christian Brothers
University in Memphis.
