WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

For the 2005-2006 Southwest Tennessee Community College womens
basketball team, the math could be quite easy for Lady Saluqis head
coach Andrea Martre four returning players plus nine newcomers could
equal one season of unprecedented success On the Banks. Already
recognized as one of the teams to watch in the Tennessee Junior and
Community College Athletic Association, the Lady Saluqis will field a
deep, talented and experienced team this season.
Leading the way is 61 forward Imesia Jackson, who averaged 11.9 points
and 8.0 rebounds as a freshman and was named to the All-TJCCAA team,
54 point guard Porshia Willis (7.0 points, 4.5 assists, 2.3 steals),
and 59 guard Priscilla Campbell (4.2 points, 2.7 rebounds).
Joining the returnees will be five guards, including 510 transfer
Ashley Shields, the second all-time leading prep scorer in Memphis and
County history and former Miss Basketball in the state of Tennessee.
Shields transferred to Southwest from Northwest Mississippi Community
College, where she played last season. Incoming freshmen in the
backcourt include 58 Gina High (Bartlett High School), 57 Jasmine
Massey (Booker T. Washington High School), 54 Tomeka Wooten (Cordova
High School), 57 Shamika Hines (Treadwell High School), and 5'7"
Jametria Newbern (Westside High School).
Rounding out the rest of the roster are four post players 60
Michelle Malone (Millington Central High School), 60 transfer Brittany
Smith (Hamilton High School/University of Louisiana-Monroe), 61 Tonya
Walker (Amite (LA) High School), and 510 Kim Brady (East High School).
We have talented players at every position, said Martre. The key to
our ultimate success will be TEAM LEADERSHIP.
