“Gina has a great offensive package but needs to commit to tough
hard-nosed defense. Gina is a smooth offensive player with great
court vision and shooting touch plus a real feel for the game. She
will play the one and two spots.”
High School: High, a two-sport standout at Bartlett High
School, will play both softball and basketball at Southwest. High
played for Coach Lynn Whitfield and helped lead the Bartlett
basketball team to a 28-4 record, the District 14AAA championship
and the Region 7AAA semifinals her senior season. She averaged 9.8
points per game and led the Panthers in assists. One of the top
all-around athletes in the Memphis area, High was one of five
finalists for The Commercial Appeal’s Best of the Preps
Athlete of the Year Award. As a junior, High averaged 8.4 points
per game and led Bartlett to a 22-8 record and the district title
before losing in the region semifinals. Her sophomore year, she
averaged 8.8 points per game, ranked fifth in the area with a .759
free throw percentage, and was named Sophomore of the Year in
District 14AAA. In softball, she started at shortstop for Coach
Katie Maroon and led the Panthers in batting with a .328 average.
High was a two-time All-District 14AAA performer and also made the
all-tournament team in 2005.
