Southwest Softball Team Takes on Pellissippi State in Region Play-In Game
The 10th-seed Southwest softball team will take on 7th-seed Roane State in a TCCAA/NJCAA Region 7 tournament play-in game at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1at Columbia State Community College's Eddie Campbell Field. The winner will advance to a 8-team double-elimination tournament May 2-5 with the champion advancing to the Appalachian District Tournament May 25-30 in Oxford, Alabama.
The Lady Saluqis, under the direction of Head Coach Keith Gentry, finished the regular season with a 19-37 overall record including 5-25 in conference play. Probable starters include sophomore catcher/infielder Addison Pfeiffer (leads the team with a .429 batting average, 7 home runs and 46 runs batted in), freshman centerfielder/pitcher Breanna Hulsey (.396, 4 HR, 43 RBI, leads pitching staff with 133-1/3 innings and 79 strikeouts), freshman first baseman/outfielder Julianna Simmons (.383, 2 HR, 33 RBI), sophomore infielder Jordan Wilson (.350, 1 HR, 16 RBI), sophomore infielder NataLee Faulkner (.325, 6 HR, 30 RBI), freshman third baseman Bella Crook (.336, 2 HR, 33 RBI), freshman pitcher Carlee Riddick (.331, 28 RBI, leads pitching staff with 9 wins), freshman outfielder/infielder Stephanie Johnson (.238, 12 RBI), sophomore rightfielder Emma Fair (.200, 1 HR, 15 RBI), and freshman outfielder/pitcher Farrah Gomez (.224, 19 RBI). Freshman Kayley Shering is the primary pinch-runner (16 runs scored.) In addition, freshman Payton Moss (.326, 1 HR, 19 RBI) is back after missing the past 14 games due to an injury.
