SALUQIS BASEBALL TEAM TAKES ON COLUMBIA STATE IN FIRST ROUND OF REGION TOURNEY!

The 4th-seed Southwest baseball team will take on 5th seed Columbia State in a TCCAA/NJCAA Region 7 tournament first round game at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The tournament will be held at the Chattanooga State Community College baseball complex.

The Saluqis finished the regular season with a 34-18 overall record including 17-9 in conference play. Offensive statistical leaders include sophomore first baseman Bryce Turner, a University of the Cumberlands commit (.366 batting average, 13 home runs, leads team with 15 doubles, 59 hits, 52 runs, 56 runs batted in (RBI), 115 total bases and a .714 slugging average; sophomore infielder Logan Luckett, a Western Kentucky University commit (.358 batting average, 55 RBI, .698 slugging average, leads team with 14 home runs and 23 stolen bases), freshman centerfielder Tyler Casserly (leads team with a .367 batting average and .521 on-base average), sophomore/Reinhardt University outfielder Charlie Smith (.359 batting average, 5 home runs, 26 RBI), freshman catcher Tripp Ray (.288 batting average, 7 home runs, 34 RBI), freshman infielder Tylan Graves (.286 batting average, 10 home runs, 47 RBI), and freshman second baseman Jonathan Walsh (.283 batting average, 17 stolen bases).

Nine Saluqi pitchers have logged at least 20 innings this season. The top starting pitchers are sophomore Brayden Stewart, a University of the Cumberlands commit (5-3 record, 5.01 earned run average (ERA), leads team with 64-2/3 innings and 70 strikeouts) and sophomore Blaine Nunnally, a Eastern Illinois University commit (5-1 record, 5.84 ERA, 57 innings, 55 strikeouts). Top relievers include freshman Hezekiah Scott (5.56 ERA, 43-2/3 innings, 45 strikeouts, leads team with 16 appearances and four saves), sophomore Anthony Scarpino (4-1 record, 24-1/3 innings, 30 strikeouts, leads team with 1.85 ERA) and freshman Scotty Young (15 appearances, 3-1 record, 4.20 ERA, 30 innings, 24 strikeouts).
